Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail

Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail is a scenic, 5.5-mile one-way loop road that offers a delightful journey through the lush forests and historic sites of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Located just outside Gatlinburg, Tennessee, this narrow, winding road is named after the "roaring" mountain stream that runs alongside it.

The trail begins near the Rainbow Falls trailhead and takes you past a variety of natural and historical attractions. Along the way, you'll encounter rushing mountain streams, old-growth forests, and well-preserved log cabins, gristmills, and other historic buildings that offer a glimpse into the lives of early Appalachian settlers.

One of the highlights of the trail is the opportunity to see several beautiful waterfalls, including the popular Grotto Falls. The hike to Grotto Falls is 2.6 miles roundtrip and is considered moderate in difficulty . At Grotto Falls, you can actually walk behind the cascading water, making it a unique and refreshing experience. Another notable spot is the Place of a Thousand Drips, a "wet weather" waterfall that provides a stunning finale to your drive.
